Pawel Piotr Reszek’s book titled “Bia\u0142e p\u0142atki, z\u0142oty \u015brodek. Historie rodzinne” which translates to White Petals, Golden Middle. Family Stories” has only been published in the polish language to date. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They say that journalism is a dead profession. <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

That in the 21st century, where everyone has a camera phone with them, there is no need for journalists. That now everyone can be a reporter, report on reality, their own here and now, from their own unique point of view. That the truth can finally be an objective truth, because it is told individually, without the simplifications and generalizations of the collective imagination. Without noise and information distortions, there is no longer a need for a chain transmission of facts, like a deaf telephone, where information melts into rumor and is subject to manipulation. Everyone can be a spokesperson for their own cause, their own experiences, and experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We report on our own lives. We use our phones to immortalize unusual events that we were given the opportunity to participate in. Someone has a video from the sports stands, someone captured the lightning striking a tree, and someone else created a live account of a meeting with their favorite politician. But that’s not all. We also show our inner selves. And literally. We massively publish photos of our children, we boast about our living arrangements, we share photo reports from family vacations. We even brag about our families and homes. We boast about our children’s successes, high salaries and extraordinary dishes that look beautiful on a plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, to what extent such videos and photos are faithful documentation of reality, and to what extent they are a calculated creation, an attempt to create ourselves anew, for the better, although in a virtual world?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, nobody is going to post a picture with a black eye after a domestic dispute. Nobody will capture on film the first spanking of a child with a belt. No one is going to share a video of a family party. No one will boast about having been robbed, beaten or raped. That the child hanged himself. That the mother hanged herself. The father and son bludgeoned the mother. That the mother killed the newborn. That a foster family objectifies children instead of supporting them. No one will ask for likes when they get older and no longer have the strength to care for their autistic adult son. No one will do a live report of an exorcism being performed over a child with suspected schizophrenia and record the mechanism of psychosis induction, imparting madness to the entire family. No one will boast about a photo of an extremely neglected and starving daughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pawe\u0142 Piotr Reszka in his latest book “Bia\u0142e p\u0142atki, z\u0142oty \u015brodek” collected reportages published in “Du\u017cy Format” and “Gazeta Wyborcza” in 2010-2021. One of his characters asks: “It happened and what will such a reportage heal? “*.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s not this way. <\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It’s not that a reportage is needed to talk about what you yourself are ashamed to talk about. To shout when we ourselves are stubbornly silent. To show what we ourselves scrupulously hide, what we suppress from our consciousness. What does not fit into the aesthetics of social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Probably more to deny, or at least enter into a polemic with the idealized image of the Polish family. To give distance. To ask questions about responsibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because one coherent picture emerges from this collection of texts. It is seen only from a distance, a distance that only a professional journalist can afford. Each tragedy described here is an individual tragedy, involving a specific family and specific people. Each drama has already happened and cannot be undone or repaired; it is the ultimate event. The harm done is irreversible. All these stories taken together, taken as a whole, prove above all the weakness of the system in which we live and which we create. Weaknesses not in individuals but in society as a whole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Good, independent and reliable reportage should cause a powerful moral hangover. Such an awakening, though painful and traumatic, can heal the society and give it a reason to act.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So we do need reporters after all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bez szum\u00f3w i zak\u0142\u00f3ce\u0144 informacyjnych, nie potrzeba ju\u017c bowiem \u0142a\u0144cuszka przekazuj\u0105cego fakty, jak g\u0142uchy telefon, gdzie informacja stapia si\u0119 z plotk\u0105 i ulega manipulacjom. Ka\u017cdy mo\u017ce by\u0107 rzecznikiem w\u0142asnej sprawy, w\u0142asnych do\u015bwiadcze\u0144 i prze\u017cy\u0107. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samodzielnie relacjonujemy swoje \u017cycia. Uwieczniamy telefonem niezwyk\u0142e wydarzenia, w kt\u00f3rych dane nam by\u0142o uczestniczy\u0107. Kto\u015b ma filmik z trybun sportowych, kto\u015b uchwyci\u0142 piorun uderzaj\u0105cy w drzewo, a kto\u015b inny utworzy\u0142 relacj\u0119 na \u017cywo ze spotkania z ulubionym politykiem. Ale to nie wszystko. Pokazujemy te\u017c jeszcze nasze wn\u0119trza. I to dos\u0142ownie. Masowo publikujemy zdj\u0119cia naszych dzieci, chwalimy si\u0119 aran\u017cacjami mieszka\u0144, udost\u0119pniamy fotorelacj\u0119 z rodzinnych wakacji. Wr\u0119cz przechwalamy si\u0119 rodzinami i domami. Sukcesami dzieci, wysokimi zarobkami i nietuzinkowymi daniami, kt\u00f3re pi\u0119knie prezentuj\u0105 si\u0119 na talerzu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jednak na ile takie filmy i zdj\u0119cia s\u0105 wiernym udokumentowaniem rzeczywisto\u015bci, a na ile wyrachowan\u0105 kreacj\u0105, pr\u00f3b\u0105 stworzenia siebie na nowo, na lepsze, chocia\u017c w wirtualnym \u015bwiecie?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No bo nikt nie wrzuci zdj\u0119cia z podbitym okiem po domowej awanturze. Nikt nie uwieczni na filmie pierwszego lania pasem dziecka. Nie udost\u0119pni filmu z rodzinnej libacji. Nikt nie pochwali si\u0119, \u017ce zosta\u0142 okradziony, pobity, zgwa\u0142cony. \u017be dziecko si\u0119 powiesi\u0142o. \u017be matka si\u0119 powiesi\u0142a. \u017be ojciec z synem matk\u0119 zat\u0142ukli. \u017be matka noworodka zabi\u0142a. \u017be rodzina zast\u0119pcza zamiast wspiera\u0107, uprzedmiotawia dzieci. Nikt nie poprosi o lajki, gdy starzej\u0105c si\u0119 nie ma ju\u017c si\u0142 do opieki nad autystycznym doros\u0142ym synem. Nikt nie zrobi relacji na \u017cywo z odprawiania egzorcyzm\u00f3w nad dzieckiem z podejrzeniem schizofrenii i nie zarejestruje mechanizmu indukcji psychozy, udzielaj\u0105cego si\u0119 na ca\u0142\u0105 rodzin\u0119 ob\u0142\u0119du. Nikt nie pochwali si\u0119 zdj\u0119ciem skrajnie zaniedbanej i umieraj\u0105cej z g\u0142odu c\u00f3reczki.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To nie jest tak, \u017ce reporta\u017c jest potrzebny, \u017ceby powiedzie\u0107 o tym, o czym samemu jest wstyd m\u00f3wi\u0107. \u017beby krzycze\u0107, gdy my sami uparcie milczymy. \u017beby pokaza\u0107, to co sami skrupulatnie ukrywamy, co wypieramy z naszej \u015bwiadomo\u015bci. Co nie mie\u015bci si\u0119 w estetyce medi\u00f3w spo\u0142eczno\u015bciowych.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bardziej chyba, \u017ceby zaprzeczy\u0107, czy chocia\u017c wej\u015b\u0107 w polemik\u0119 z wyidealizowanym wizerunkiem polskiej rodziny. \u017beby da\u0107 dystans. Zada\u0107 pytanie o odpowiedzialno\u015b\u0107.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bo z ca\u0142ego tego zbioru tekst\u00f3w wy\u0142ania si\u0119 jeden, sp\u00f3jny obraz. Widziany jest dopiero z oddalenia, dystansu w\u0142a\u015bnie, na jaki mo\u017ce sobie pozwoli\u0107 jedynie zawodowy dziennikarz. Ka\u017cda opisana tu tragedia, jest tragedi\u0105 indywidualn\u0105, dotycz\u0105c\u0105 konkretnej rodziny i konkretnych os\u00f3b. Ka\u017cdy dramat ju\u017c si\u0119 wydarzy\u0142 i nie da si\u0119 go cofn\u0105\u0107, naprawi\u0107, jest wydarzeniem ostatecznym. Wyrz\u0105dzone krzywdy s\u0105 nieodwracalne. Wszystkie te opowie\u015bci zebrane razem, traktowane jako ca\u0142o\u015b\u0107, dowodz\u0105 przede wszystkim s\u0142abo\u015bci systemu, w kt\u00f3rym \u017cyjemy i kt\u00f3ry tworzymy. S\u0142abo\u015bci nie indywidualnych jednostek, a ca\u0142ego spo\u0142ecze\u0144stwa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dobry, niezale\u017cny i rzetelny reporta\u017c powinien wywo\u0142a\u0107 pot\u0119\u017cnego kaca moralnego. Takie przebudzenie, cho\u0107 bolesne i traumatyczne, mo\u017ce uzdrowi\u0107 spo\u0142ecze\u0144stwo, da\u0107 asumpt do dzia\u0142ania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Czyli jednak potrzebujemy reporter\u00f3w.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
